I believed Obama was sincerely interested in changing the way government operated. Turns out I fell for a masterful marketing campaign which included, among many tactics of manipulation, the tried and true principle of consistency and continuation. This principle recognizes people's strong psychological desire to remain consistent with the consequent of acting in a way that supports an initial decision and contintues a sense of consistency. In general a marketer recognizes that a decision to purchase represents a commitment of trust and that a person is more likely to purchase a second offer to continue the consistency of the decision to trust. In the campaign every individual that made a direct contribution ($25 for me) was highly likely to be a vote in the election. This was reinforced by the consistency with which the campaign was run. The bottom line is my experience with politics leads me to the conclusion non-participation is the best choice. You know the old saying, fool me once...
